My Embarrassing Attempt at Playing Battlefield 3
With my business I buy and sell consoles and games. As consequence, I get to play a lot of the newer games for free, but usually only have a day to play them (they sell quick). Recently I was afforded the opportunity to play Battlefield 3 by Electronic Arts. I must say that the graphics in this game are the most impressive that I’ve EVER seen! The first level seemed incredibly expansive, the attention to detail was mind boggling, and the lighting effects were done beautifully. Over the years I have had an affinity towards graphics, and when a game developer wins me over in the category game play seems to be that much better.
Pandering aside, let’s talk about game play. I started the game up with my girlfriend and her dad in the room. They made comments about how great the game looked from the get go. I made my way through the beginning of the first level, getting a feel for the controls and generally taking the game in as a whole. I made my way to the part where you are entering the roof top and there is a sniper taking shots at you. This is as far as I got…lol
I found the so called sniper in a window of the building across the street from the roof top. I saw the blast signature of his rifle when he fired, and I felt the pain of getting taken down again and again. No matter what I did I never got past this point. I shot at his signature, all of the windows in the building, looked all over the place to no avail. This was a sad point for me in my gaming career.
I eventually just gave up, with it being Saturday and all. Maybe if I approach the game again in the future with a fresh mind, I’ll have more success. On a side note, I was unable to play multiplayer due to EA requiring a gaming pass code. I’m very disappointed with them about that and will have to save that rant for another day.
